Dear Year 11 Parents and Carers,
I hope this message finds you well, and that your child has settled smoothly into Year 11 at Treviglas Academy.
Period 6 Sessions – Essential for Success
As you may know, we are running ‘Period 6’ sessions for Year 11 every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. These sessions should not be viewed as optional by students and play a vital role in supporting your child’s progress across all subjects. Please can you reinforce with your child the importance of attending every session.
Why Period 6 Matters:
- The content covered will boost students’ confidence and ensure they are fully prepared for their GCSE exams.
- Many students have asked about private tutoring. Through Period 6, we are providing high-quality support for free. For context, private tutoring typically costs £30–£40 per hour, amounting to around £4,000 over the year – all provided at no cost to you.
- Last week, around 50 students attended each night. While I am pleased with this, I am concerned that over 120 students are missing out on this invaluable opportunity. Attending Period 6 could make all the difference in your child’s results.
On Wednesdays, I personally deliver the maths Period 6. Please encourage your child to attend and help us stress just how important these sessions are for their success.
Updates on Parent and Student Accounts
We have recently experienced some technical issues with Bromcom/MCAS and Gateway/ParentPay. Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve these. I am now confident that most issues have been fixed, but if you are still having trouble accessing your accounts, please contact us so we can help.
Parent Apps/Accounts:
- MyChildAtSchool (MCAS): Access your child’s timetable, behaviour points, and attendance. (Payments will be enabled soon.)
- ParentPay (via School Gateway): Use this to top up and monitor your child’s school dinner account.
Student Apps/Accounts:
- MCAS: Students can access timetables, homework, behaviour points, attendance, and more via the MCAS portal or app.
- SPARX: For maths homework. Account details are provided by class teachers.
- Tassomai: For science and other subjects. Account details are provided by class teachers.
Afterschool Clubs and Transport
The afterschool club programme will be shared with you this week (if you haven’t received it already). We run two late buses every Tuesday and Thursday, currently free of charge. As previously communicated, donations towards running costs are always appreciated, as the service costs over £25,000 per year to operate.
